The Battle for Truth: Defending the Christian Worldview in the Marketplace of Ideas
By David Noebel
see related

So psychology, even in a Christian college, is so far away from where it should be... Obvious and abundant compromise is evident - and everyone in the class still continues on as if there is nothing wrong with that - sheep is definitely a good picture. Below is my latest "journal entry" for psych class. The only one that has not gotten a "great insight!" or "well-written!" or some other note from the prof. Unfortunately, this is the one I really wanted her input on...

Journal Entry: “Dawkins’ law of adversarial debate: ‘When two incompatible beliefs are advocated with equal intensity, the truth does not lie halfway between them.’” (Richard Dawkins, 2004 – pg. 605 of Myers’ text.) This entire semester of psychology, I have been struggling with this very idea. Faith in God and belief in the Bible’s inerrancy versus the ideas and presuppositions coming from those who are ardently and aggressively against Christianity should not mix. Dawkins knew it, based on his quote. So I wonder, why is it so difficult for us as Christians to know where that line is or whether it even exists?
I have spoken to several fellow believers regarding this issue – to some it is black and white, and to some it is a bit more gray. Some say we may use their ideas and methods as long as we give primacy to the Scriptures. Others say to mix the two would be spiritual adultery. While I can see that Maslow’s Hierarchy (at least on the bottom levels) could be applicable and aid in witnessing to people, do not the Scriptures also say this, and said it thousands of years prior to Maslow? It seems to me that every good thing about psychology or philosophy was provided already in Scripture. It also seems to me that if one crosses that line and begins to use secular psychology as a base of operations, then the line begins to fade between the two.
Richard Dawkins and Jesus appear to agree on one thing, though. Two incompatible beliefs do not mix. Acts 26:17-18 says, “…Gentiles, unto whom I send thee,
18 to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among them that are sanctified by faith in me.” Paul is speaking here to Agrippa regarding his conversion, but there is an idea here that cannot be mistaken. We are the light of the world. But how are we to be the light if we are using the world’s light (or methods) as the source of help?

Questions? Comments? Thoughts?

"...and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me."  ~ Galatians 2:20

The above is a memory verse for one of my classes. Two questions:
1. What does 'I no longer live, but Christ lives in me' mean to you?
2. What does it mean to 'live by faith'?

Beautiful day here in sunny Florida. I pray all is well with you.

Seek first His Kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you.

Had my first day of class today. I forgot math.... to say I'm mathematically impaired would be an understatement.    OT survey is going to be great though. Dr. Freeman is straightforward, funny, and rather entertaining. Oh, did I mention Todd got accepted into school today? Yep - we are in OT survey together... how cool is that? We pray before each class, have chapel for an hour Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, and the church we went to on Sunday has a relaxed atmosphere, live band, great music, excellent preaching, and is fun for Josh and Sarah - it's no Valley, but we're thinking it just might do.

Oh and by the way, we're pretty sure God has Todd's perfect job lined up... and that He sold our house today (we are getting the fax later today). All realtors have said its a bad market for sellers -  there are three other houses on our block for sale and one has been for sale for over a year. The realtors also said it would take 4 to 6 months for our house to sell. It took 3 days. And they are giving what we asked. Todd's mom and step dad said they would have to "rethink this whole God thing" if our house sold this soon. They have been watching as God has been removing all of the 'road blocks' over the past three weeks. (Would you pray for them if you think of it?)

We've also had the pleasure of meeting some really great people. Played cards with a couple last night. Had Sarah's b-day party at our 'encourager family's' house on Saturday night because our house still is full of boxes (though getting much better)! What a HUGE blessing that was - they have 3 little girls too   God is sooo good. All the time.

Seek first His kingdom and leave the rest to Him. Our cup runneth over.

Have a good week at VBS!

So not worthy

I find myself amazed at His grace yet again today. Yesterday I gossiped *sigh*, but then I confessed it to Him and prayed for forgiveness and cleansing and enabling not to continue committing that sin. God's response: He forgave, He showed me how to rectify the situation, and then on top of that, He blessed me in a way I can't quite explain. How does a person go about thanking Jesus for doing all of the work and then handing out blessings like that?
